FAQ

How much does it cost to be a member
family of HHE?

We pay our host church a Building & Maintenance Fee twice each year. (August & January) This fee is currently $85. Also, each teacher collects a reasonable class fee to cover supplies for the year.

Accreditation

HHE does not hold any state accreditation, nor does it provide transcripts or other record-keeping services. Each family is expected to comply with all state regulations concerning homeschooling requirements. Families that are not legally protected by being enrolled in an umbrella school are required to be a member of the Home School Legal Defense Association (hslda.org). This provides legal protection in homeschooling matters. A co-op with protected members is a protected co-op.

Will my child have homework?

Beginning in 6th grade, teachers will assign homework to prepare middle school students for the expectations of high school.

High School classes will have homework and grades.  Our high school classes are designed to fulfill the requirements for the appropriate high school credit without supplementation.

We structure our classes to be sufficient coverage. No supplementation is required on your part.

Curriculum

HHE’s academic program seeks to provide a supplementary program to further enhance the parent’s efforts at home. The use of an established curriculum is strongly encouraged both to assist the teacher and provide consistency within the co-op. Scriptural truth is always the foundation and is to be integrated into all subjects. All curriculum requests are to be submitted to the board for review and approval prior to publication to the group.

What if I've never taught in a classroom setting before?

We try to place first year teachers in assistant roles. And it's our goal to provide as much support as a teacher needs. We look to play to each teacher's strengths.

Grading

Elementary students will not receive grades. Middle school students may receive grades based on the teacher’s preference. High School students will receive a percentage grade. Late assignments will only be accepted one week after the original due date, with a 10% grade reduction. After that time, the grade will be recorded as a 0%. The grade of “I” for incomplete will not be given. Teachers at co-op are also teachers at home and can not be held responsible for keeping up with students outstanding work for more than one week.
